Development coach delighted with win
Huddersfield Town Development Coach Steve Eyre praised his players as they took another step towards the Professional Development League 2 North title.
The Terriers’ Development Squad defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 at PPG Canalside courtesy of a brace from Jordan Sinnott and a close range finish from Cristian Lopez.
Town almost let their lead slip though, with Forest scoring two second half goals.
“We weren’t hanging on at the end, but we handicapped ourselves,” Eyre told htafc.com.
“Our first half performance was excellent; it was a display of how to win a football match. It was almost faultless. However, the second half was almost everything you can do to throw a match away.
“We gave ourselves a tough final ten minutes through some poor defending, but I wasn’t too worried. I think you have to give credit to our opponents though, they took the game to us and got off the ropes well.”
Steve continued: “We displayed a little bit of complacency, but our backline changed quite dramatically at the start of the second half, which I think disrupted us. Under-18s Joe Wilkinson and William Boyle both came on having played on Saturday and Will had to play out of position, so it wasn’t easy for them. Also, Jordan Sinnott was already in the back four playing out of position at right-back.
“It was tough for them, but a great challenge and the experience will have done their development good.”
Jordan Sinnott scored from the spot and then curled home a superb free-kick to give Town the early advantage.
“He has wonderful technique which he displayed for both of his goals,” said Steve. “His free-kick was fantastic, but it was almost like a penalty for him, such is the natural ease at which he strikes the ball. We are trying to teach him a new side to his game at right-back to make him a more versatile footballer.”
The victory maintains Town’s unbeaten record in the league, a statistics that Eyre would like to hold until the end of the season.
“We just want to carry on playing well and hopefully go the season unbeaten. There are points to be played for and we want to get as many as we can and win the league.”
