BOOTHY’S COMMUNITY ROUND-UP

Wallace meets new club partner

Thanks for reading my second Community Round-Up!

Over the last fortnight my focus has been on meeting several new partners, and as per last week I’m happy to say the First Team squad has been on hand to help out.

In the past our defender Murray Wallace has been absolutely terrific with kids on our community appearances and it was no different when he visited our new school partner Roberttown CE (VC) J and I School last week. He held a question and answer session with the pupils before helping me present a plaque for the school to give pride of place within the school.

I’ve also been to three new club partners – all local junior football teams – during the last two weeks. I’d like to formally welcome West End Park JFC, Kirkheaton Youth FC and Kirkburton JFC as partners of Huddersfield Town; I hope they all place their plaques with pride!

If anyone reading this is involved at a school or junior sports club – not just football but any sport – I’d urge you to have a look at how our partnership can benefit you. On top of player visits and the special plaque, you also get the chance earn cashback on tickets you sell to our games, which you can use to buy vital equipment. I know how scarce money is at amateur level and this really could help.

I was also involved in the latest ‘All Together Town’ meeting on Tuesday evening and the #FillTheFMLower campaign has really gathered momentum, resulting in the trial against Barnsley on 1 March. I hope as many people as possible can sit behind the goal at that game and really make a difference to the atmosphere.

I also hosted my first monthly ‘Quiz Night’ at Canalside during February and it was great to see six teams compete, with the winners scooping a £50 prize! The next night will be held on Thursday 6 March 2014 at 8pm; I hope to see lots of you there.

Best of luck to Mark Robins and the team for tomorrow’s game against my other former team, Sheffield Wednesday!
