LEE PELTIER: WE WERE OUTCLASSED

9 August 2014

Captain gives honest assessment

Huddersfield Town’s Captain Lee Peltier pulled no punches in his assessment of the 4-0 opening day defeat to Bournemouth, saying his side were outclassed by the Cherries.

“I am absolutely gutted with that performance, it was a terrible way to start the season. Hopefully it is a one off and it is out of our system,” said Lee.

“Every game is a tough one and we knew today was going to be a difficult test. However, when you concede after 26 seconds it is hard to get going again. We tried to get a foothold in the game, but they got the second and then after that it was goodnight. I can’t really explain what happened; we didn’t wish for it, but sometimes in football things just don’t go your way.

“We had a game plan but that took a big hit after less than minute; it was a nightmare start. We are all men who have experience at this level and we should be doing better than that. We didn’t look like scoring; we struggled to create chances. It was a lacklustre performance all round.”

Bournemouth looked quicker and stronger than Town and Peltier praised their performance: “You can’t take anything away from Bournemouth because they are a very good team and on that performance they will be up at the top of the league challenging. They had good movement and players who were willing to chase in behind. They totally outclassed us.”

Town now have three away games in a week to look forward to starting with Chesterfield on Tuesday.

“We have to respond positively,” the Captain said. “We have got a lot of games coming up and our character will now be tested; we all need to man up and drive the team forward. Everybody is upset, but we can’t dwell on it because we have a big game on Tuesday.

“I would be disappointed if I was a fan and I had to watch today's performance,” he added. “Hopefully they will stick with us and we will give them something to get excited about.”
