HAMMILL: WE NEED CUTTING EDGE

8 April 2014

Winger previews tonight’s Ipswich match

Huddersfield Town’s Adam Hammill is expecting the floodgates to open when the Terriers click in the final third.

Town’s finishing in the last few games has proved their Achilles heel with good chances wasted against Reading and Bolton.

“When things have clicked for us in the final third the floodgates have opened this season, especially at home,” said the Liverpudlian. “We have scored five past Bournemouth, Yeovil and Barnsley already and when we are on our game we are a good team to watch. I think we need to believe in our ability a little bit more and start games quicker.

“It is massive six matches, but we can’t let what has happened affect our confidence,” he continued. “I do believe we have played well in parts of games though, we were on top for large periods against both Reading and Bolton, but in the final third we aren’t providing that cutting edge. We have got a young team and I think at times we rush situations in and around the box.

“We are trying to play football in the right way and I think the fans can see that.”

Town haven’t beaten Ipswich since their return to the Championship and suffered last minute heartbreak at Portman Road in December.

“We definitely owe them one,” Hammill said. “We played well and went one goal ahead before missing a penalty and had that gone in it could have been a different story. Again though, they scored in the last minute and like Saturday it was a real kick in the teeth. We need to put some points on the board and show the fans what we can do. We want to get them on the edge of their seats and give them something to be excited about for next season.”

Hammill, who is set to make the 250th appearance of his career tonight, was signed by Mick McCarthy at Wolves and knows all too well what to expect of his Ipswich players.

“He expects them to work hard and always give 110%. All the lads loved him and would give their all for him on the pitch. He is just a nice guy who was fun to be around; we always had a good craic, but when it was time to work hard you would know about it.”
