TOWN DUO PLAY IN IRISH DEFEAT

6 September 2013

Norwood and Paterson lose to Portugal

Huddersfield Town’s Oliver Norwood and Martin Paterson played the full 90 minutes for Northern Ireland on Friday evening as they were defeated 4-2 at home to a Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired Portugal in a World Cup Qualifier.

Although they fell behind, the Green and White Army looked to be in a good position when two goals put them ahead against their visitors, who had a man sent off, but a red card for Chris Brunt levelled parity in the teams before Real Madrid star Ronaldo netted a second half hat-trick.

Paterson now has two goals in 16 caps for his country, whereas teammate Norwood earned his 11th senior cap on the evening

Both players will hope to feature again when Northern Ireland travel to Luxembourg on Tuesday evening.
