GO-KART WINNERS DINE WITH DEAN

18 September 2013

Kirkburton Middle School enjoy a night to remember

2013’s Go-Kart Challenge winners Kirkburton Middle School dined with Chairman Dean Hoyle at the Charlton game as a reward for their hard work and success.

The group of students, who successfully saw off the competition at this year’s event, were invited down to the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night to enjoy their winners prize.

Ahead of Town’s 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic, they were given a tour of the John Smith’s Stadium.

They were then invited into the Boardroom to enjoy a pre-match meal with Dean Hoyle and the Huddersfield Town Directors.

The students also watched all the action from Tuesday’s entertaining match with Dean and the Directors from the Directors Box.

Prior to kick-off they formed the Guard of Honour as the teams walked out and at half-time were able to showcase their ‘tractor-style’ creation by riding around the perimeter of the pitch in their Go-Kart!

Club Ambassador Andy Booth told htafc.com:

“We were delighted to host Kirkburton Middle School at Tuesday night’s game, who were worthy winners of the Go-Kart Challenge - despite being the youngest school to participate.

“The pupils and teachers fully earned their VIP evening alongside our Directors for the excellent work they put into building the Go-Kart throughout the year.”

The Go-Kart Challenge tested high schools from Huddersfield, Halifax and Wakefield to design a pedal-powered car and race it on a track outside the stadium.

While Kirkburton’s kart won only the aesthetics category outright, the school’s effort was judged to be the best overall.

Other category winners were:

Design folder – Wakefield Girls High School
Recycling – Holmfirth High School
Circuit race – Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield
Manoeuvrability – Queen Elizabeth Grammar School
Obstacle – Moor End Academy, Crosland Moor

The Club is still looking for a title sponsor for the Go-Kart Challenge – if you are interested please contact Senior Commercial Manager Tracy Nelson via 01484 484141 or by emailing tracy.nelson@htafc.com
