EYRE POST WEDNESDAY

10 September 2013

Steve talks to htafc.com following emphatic 4-1 victory

Steve Eyre was delighted with his midfield pairing as his side recorded their third successive victory in the Professional Development League 2 North.

Cristian Lopez and Daniel Carr stole the headlines with a brace each, but it was the performance of Eyre’s midfielders who helped set the foundations for the victory.

“Keith Southern got some vital minutes under his belt, which is a great boost for our Club and Dale Hopson has been edging towards a Man of the Match performance all season and I thought he deserved one today,” Steve told htafc.com.

“Our performance was very good in the end,” he continued. “We were all unhappy with the way we started and in hindsight we deserved to be behind because of our loose play.

“We had a really good spell during the middle of the half when we scored and then dropped off towards the end of it.

“We re-organised at half time and set ourselves some challenges and I thought they were all met in the second half.”

Wednesday went ahead through Franck Betra as Town failed to deal with the visitors pace early on.

“I am not sure why we were a bit slow out of the blocks,” said Steve. “It is fantastic to be playing at the John Smith’s Stadium, but maybe that got to the players. We were a little bit loose with our approach and were punished. It wasn’t nice to see the ball in the back of the net, but it gave us that jolt to get going. From that point we controlled the game.”

Daniel Carr now has five goals in four games, but it has been his play with his back to goal which has pleased Eyre the most.

“He keeps going and I am delighted because he will always get recognition for his goals. I wanted his hold up play to improve and I thought that was very good today. He is always likely to get us a goal and he is a very good acquisition for our Club.”
