Extra games for Town’s youngsters

The games programme for Town’s Under-18 side has increased during the 2013/14 season thanks to a new extension from the Premier League.

Town’s Under-18 will play an extra eight matches, incorporating four home and four away games against teams from the southern section of the Professional Development League 2. That will take Town’s games total to 26, with the possible addition of end of season Play-Off matches.

“Training is important, but game time is so vital for scholars and that is the ethos that has driven this decision by the Premier League,” Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Mark Lillis explained.

“The scholars will also gain experience of the full overnight stay, just as the first team prepare for their long-haul away games. That will stand them in good stead if and when they make the step up.”

The addition fixtures for the Terriers are a home fixture against Cardiff City on 28 September; a trip to Ipswich Town on 12 October; home to Brighton on 26 October; away at Swansea on 9 November; home to Crystal Palace on 16 November; away at QPR on 1 March and two fixtures to end the season at Charlton (5 April) and at home to Millwall (12 April).
