Under-18s make it six wins from six!
Jake Charles celebrated signing a contract extension earlier this week with a brace as Town’s Under-18 side extended its 100% start to the season at Canalside this morning.
Town’s youngsters have now won all their opening six games of the 2013/14 campaign, with this morning’s 3-0 home win over Crewe Alexandra sending Frankie Bunn and Tony Carss’ side eight points clear at top of Professional Development League 2 North.
The young Terriers started strongly, with striker Flo Bojaj going close twice in the opening 10 minutes. However, he turned provider for Town’s opener in the 17th minute; peeling off to the right before playing in Jake Charles, who calmly finished for his fifth goal in six U18 starts this season.
Visitors Crewe, who arrived at Canalside second in the division, got a foothold in the game as the half hour mark approached, but Town still had all the chances; midfielder Philip Billing hitting the wall with a late first-half free-kick before the same player set Bojaj away around the hour mark, who was stopped by the Crewe ‘keeper
Town, led by skipper Joe Wilkinson, had to defend against some testing Crewe attacks during the second-half and there were a few hairy moments, but Charles relieved the pressure with his second of the game 15 minutes from time – firing home left-footed from just outside the area after good build-up play from Billing and left back Mikey Starkey.
Bojaj got a deserved goal to make it three - his third goal in as many appearances - a minute later, calmly lifting the ball over the advancing Crewe ‘keeper before slotting home.
