STRIKER LOANED TO SHREWSBURY

10 October 2013

Cristian joins League 1 side until November

Huddersfield Town striker Cristian Lopez has joined League 1 side Shrewsbury Town on an Emergency Loan until Saturday 9 November.

The Spaniard will join the Shrews ahead of their home match against Gillingham this Saturday.

Cristian became Town’s eighth summer signing when he joined in July after impressing throughout a short trial, during which he scored against Oldham in a pre-season friendly.

The former Real Madrid B striker has featured twice from the bench for Town’s First Team against Nottingham Forest and Hull City in the Capital One Cup.

The 24 year-old has also scored three times for the Terriers’ Professional Development League 2 North side, including a brace against Sheffield Wednesday.

Mark Robins told htafc.com that now is the right time for Cristian to experience First Team football:

“We have been impressed with Cristian’s development during the last two months and he has done well in training and with the Development Squad,” said Mark.

“We feel that he has now fully adjusted and settled into life in England and that now is the time for him to go to the next stage, which is to play some First Team league football. League 1 is a very competitive level and it will provide Cristian with a tough test. Playing under Graham Turner at Shrewsbury will aid his development and we hope that he can make a big contribution to their campaign.

“With the international break being upon us, the timing is right for him to go out and get competitive games while we have a short break.”

Cristian will be available to play in five games for Shrewsbury and Town can recall the striker after 28 days.
