KANE’S IRELAND U17s PROGRESS

29 October 2013

Danny capped again as nation gets to Elite Qualifying Round

Huddersfield Town Academy scholar Danny Kane earned his fourth cap for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-17 side today in a comprehensive defeat at the hands of England.

However, the Irish had already done the job of qualifying for the Elite Qualifying Round for the Under-17 Championships, which will eventually be contested by eight nations in Malta in 2014.

Wins over Gibraltar – when Danny played the full 90 minutes – and hosts Armenia had already sealed qualification for the Irish, so today’s game against England only decided who finished as group winners.

Town’s Kane, signed from Cherry Orchard in the summer, came on for the final 15 minutes but could not prevent his side from losing 6-0.

Despite this, Ireland finished second and now progress to the Elite Qualifying Round; the draw for which will be held in early December 2013.

Danny will now return to England, where his Under-18 teammates will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the Professional Development League season with a win at Birmingham City on Saturday.
