EYRE PRAISES WORK ETHIC

15 October 2013

Town’s Senior Professional Development Coach delighted with start

Steve Eyre is delighted with the start Town’s Development Squad has made to the season – and isn’t surprised by their success.

“The lads have got a fantastic work ethic,” he told htafc.com. “They realise that being a footballer is a job and they come in every day and work hard to develop. Performances aren’t created over a 90 minute match they stem from work in the gym and training field each and every day.

“The lads dominated the game today and they deserved that; they waited for their moment to pounce and score and they did that effectively twice.”

The Terriers dominated the ball during the entire 90 minutes and never looked troubled by the home side, despite that, they went in at half-time level after missing a couple of good opportunities.

“The first half was very much attack vs defence in our favour and perhaps some poor play by us in the final third let us down,” said Steve. “I told them to keep doing the same things and add that little extra bit of quality – and they certainly did that. Our first goal effected Coventry’s shape and we were pretty much able to pass the ball around freely for the rest of the game.

“We are playing in a league and points are important, but development is the key word,” he continued. “We were missing six players today who are either out on loan or in Matt Crooks’ case are out with an unfortunate injury. As a result, it allowed the likes of Keith Southern to get some minutes under his belt and we were also able to finish the game with three Under-18 players on the pitch. I was pleased that those lads stepped up from the work that they did on Saturday to finish the game with us.”
