Mark delighted with derby victory
Mark Robins enjoyed his side’s display as they defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.
Martin Paterson and Adam Clayton netted on their return to the side and celebrated in amusing style!
“It was all in good fun,” said Mark on the celebration. “It must have been rehearsed behind my back because I wasn’t expecting it! It shows that there is a good spirit within the camp.”
Town dominated large parts of the game and should have won by a bigger margin.
“We mixed things up a bit today and everybody produced for us,” Mark said. “James Vaughan was brilliant running in behind for us and also working back towards his own goal.
“The players are good players, but everyone has to tow the line and we had a situation to deal with,” he continued. “I want the players to work hard and be the best they can be every day. If people step out of line, regardless of who they you are, I have to do the right thing for the Club.
“I have no issue with any of the players; they have all knuckled down and the concentration levels are really good. For the most part we were outstanding today.”
Paterson’s 11th minute strike was his first for Town and Mark expects the striker to kick on.
“It is overdue, but I am delighted for him, he was brilliant. He has struggled a little to bed in, but hopefully he can now kick on. Everybody gave everything for the Club and they proved what they are capable of.”
Mark’s final word was for his ‘keeper who made a number of smart saves to deny Jermaine Johnson.
“Alex Smithies was superb for us today, his concentration levels were fantastic. There was a small period of the game when we were peppered with shots and he had an answer for everything. It was very disappointing to concede the goal from a stupidly conceded free-kick. It is the only downside.”
