Organisation donates to local Breakfast Club
The Mid-Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce (MYCCI) has made a donation towards the Town Foundation’s Early Kick-Off Breakfast Club at Hillside Primary School.
MYCCI has selected to support the Hillside Breakfast Club as it is local to its offices in Lockwood.
The Town Foundation's initiative, which is currently in its second year, ensures local children start their day with a healthy breakfast.
After a successful first year, Hillside Primary has had an average daily attendance of thirty children – over double that of their previous breakfast club.
The breakfast club now attracts families who are not entitled to free school meals, but still struggle to make ends meet; enabling more parents back in to employment.
Not only does the club ensure children gain a healthy breakfast, but they also enjoy socialising with their friends and staff members. During the week of Year 6 SATs, they were able to provide all Year 6 children with a healthy breakfast, resulting in a more focused and calm bunch of students, ready for their exams.

Hillside’s Breakfast Club has also assisted volunteers in securing employment and education; one has gone on to study a teaching assistant degree and another has been offered paid employment.
Jill Mellor, Learning Mentor at Hillside Primary, explained:
"The Early Kick-Off Breakfast Club has proved to be a resounding success and we predict that it will continue to thrive in the future, benefitting not just the children in our school, but the wider community as well. We owe a huge debt of thanks to MYCCI for sponsoring Hillside Primary in this initiative and are extremely proud and grateful to hear that this will continue."
Andrew Choi, Executive Director for the Chamber commented:
"We are delighted to support such a great initiative for a second year. Hearing the difference the scheme has made to the children, parents and wider community is fantastic and we will are looking forward to visiting the school again to see the progress for ourselves."
The Town Foundation’s Corporate Fundraising Officer Mandy Taylor added:
"I would like to thank the MYCCI for its continued support of Hillside Primary, especially as its donation is not only repeated for a second year running, but has increased substantially. This will help ensure that no child will be denied the opportunity to have a healthy start to their day and be ready to learn and develop from the very second the school bell rings.”
