GATESHEAD OR LUTON IN YOUTH CUP

8 November 2013

FA Youth Cup Third Round draw made

Huddersfield Town’s Under-18 side has been drawn at home to Gateshead or Luton Town in the Third Round Proper of this year’s FA Youth Cup.

Town’s opponents will be decided when Gateshead host Luton in their Second Round Proper match on Monday 18 November.

The game must be played before Saturday 21 December 2013; keep checking htafc.com for full information.

The most prestigious competition for Under-18 players, The FA Youth Cup is contested by players aged between 15 and 18 years old; this season a player must have been born on or after 1 September 1995 and before 1 September 1998 to be eligible.

Town’s Under-18s enter at this stage of the competition as the Club’s First Team is in the Sky Bet Championship.

Last season Town reached the Fifth Round Proper after wins at Hartlepool United and Stoke City, but lost 3-2 at Nottingham Forest; current First Team squad member Duane Holmes scoring twice at the City Ground.

Town’s best ever performance in the competition came in the 1973/74 season, when the Under-18s became the first Yorkshire side to reach the FA Youth Cup Final. They were defeated 2-1 over two legs by Tottenham Hotspur.

The Terriers’ Under-18 team is currently 13 points clear at the top of the Under-18 Professional Development League 2 North having won nine and drawn one in its first 10 fixtures of the season. The team will be hoping to extend its unbeaten start away at Swansea City on Saturday morning.

Gateshead’s youth team plays in the Football Conference Youth Alliance and has beaten Ryton & Crawcrook Albion, Scarborough Athletic, Nelson, Consett and Tranmere Rovers to reach the Second Round Proper, whereas Luton Town – Youth Alliance South East members – have defeated Rothwell Corinthians, Corby Town, Leighton Town and Boston United.
