Ambassador training hard ahead of fight
With just two weeks to go until ‘Boothy’s Boxing Night’, Town’s Ambassador has been training hard in preparation for his showcase fight against Rawthorpe’s Rocky – Mark Reynolds.
Boothy hasn’t done much training since retiring from professional football in 2009 – and has been pushed to his limits ahead of his fight on Friday 15 November.
The former striker’s training program has included lifting tractor tyres, skipping, sparring, working with a punch bag and also running up and down the stairs of the stands in the John Smith’s Stadium.
After Andy takes on the experienced boxing professional Reynolds in his maiden bout, Town cult hero Darren Bullock will step into the ring to see if his combative on-the-field style translates well to the squared circle!
Attendees will enjoy a three course meal and enjoy bouts featuring boxers from Rawthorpe Amateur Boxing Club before the main event of the evening, which will see Town legends Booth and Bullock take to the ring against Rawthorpe’s boxing instructor.
Ahead of his boxing debut, Boothy said:
“This event is a first for Huddersfield Town – and a first for me too!
“I have absolutely no experience when it comes to boxing, but Mark has promised to go easy on me in our exhibition match. I’m a little nervous, but I don’t imagine that will be a problem for ‘Bully’ when he steps in for the second round!
“We’ve got lots planned for this night that should make it a thoroughly entertaining evening for everyone that comes down.”
