TOWN DUO SUMMONED TO JAMAICA SQUAD

10 March 2013

Robinson and Beckford involved in World Cup qualifiers

Huddersfield Town’s on-loan duo Theo Robinson and Jermaine Beckford have been called up to Jamaica’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Jamaica are set to tackle Panama on 22 March at their national stadium before travelling to Costa Rica for a second game at their Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica four days later.

Theo earned his first cap for Jamaica back in February during a goalless draw in Mexico, coming on as a 54th minute substitute for Sheffield Wednesday’s Jermaine Johnson.

That was Jamaica’s first game in the Fourth Round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Jamaica, Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica make up a six team group with Honduras and the United States, from which three teams will automatically qualify for the tournament. The fourth placed side will go into a Play-Off against the winner of the Oceanic qualifying group.

Beckford has missed Town’s last 10 games due to a recurrence of a hamstring injury suffered during the 1-0 npower Championship home win over Crystal Palace in January. He is eligible for Jamaica through his family connections, but is yet to be capped by the national team.
