Town representative flies the flag in the German Bundesliga!
Huddersfield Town Success Centre manager Jeanette Palmer was invited to Dynamo Dresden FC as the special guest of the British Council, Bosch Foundation and German Bundesliga to advise and support the 12 German Bundesliga clubs to develop their education and teaching provision based on good practice in the UK, most notably at Town’s Success Centre.
To a panel of around 100 guests, including education officials, football club representatives and the Police Commissioner for Dresden, Jeanette presented ideas and took part in a question and answer session to help develop ideas and a development plan for the Bundesliga education centres.
Huddersfield Town Success Centre is one of the few remaining ‘Playing for Success’ centres in the UK and its practice is acknowledged as one of high quality learning for the children and young people, families and adults who attend. The centre has the Quality in Study Support kite mark at Advanced Level, the highest of the three available tiers, and has survived government cuts to sports club based education centres to continue to offer innovative and motivational learning opportunities to our local community.
The German audience were impressed at the developments at Huddersfield Town Success Centre and at the close partnership with the football club, who continue to be very supportive of the centre. “I am inspired and enthused at the work of the Success Centre at Huddersfield Town and I have learned so much,’’ the Manager at Dynamo Dresden education centre commented.
The Bosch Foundation in Germany has funded the 12 Bundesliga clubs to work with young people in their local communities to tackle a host of social issues such as youth crime, drug addiction and alcohol problems and they are keen to develop their education centres based on UK good practice over the last 13 years of the UK Playing for Success project, of which our own Success Centre is an integral player.
