LYNCH RECEIVES CALL TO WALES SQUAD

13 March 2013

Town defender gets late summons

Huddersfield Town defender Joel Lynch has been called into the Wales squad for its upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The 25 year-old was born in England, but qualifies for Wales through his Barry-born father and received his first cap for his adopted country as a 78th minute substitute during an international friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina in August 2012.

The defender was originally placed on standby by Chris Coleman, but has been summoned due to the withdrawal of Celtic defender Adam Matthews.

Wales will travel to Scotland’s Hampden Park for their first qualifier on 22 March before a home game against Croatia at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium on 26 March.

Lynch is the fourth Town player to be called up for international action next week, following hot on the heels of Jamaican duo Jermaine Beckford and Theo Robinson (click HERE) and Scotland Under-21 cap Murray Wallace (click HERE).
