Game on Saturday 9 March dedicated to Town Foundation
Huddersfield Town’s npower Championship home game against Charlton Athletic will be used to spread the word about the Town Foundation.
The overall aim of the Huddersfield Town Foundation is simple – to help improve the quality of life for young people across Huddersfield and the West Yorkshire area.
The first official project that the registered charity has been delivering since November 2012 is the ‘Early Kick-Off’ breakfast club initiative, which to date has served over 8,000 nutritious meals to primary and junior school pupils in seven local schools.
Town’s clash with Charlton will be used to raise awareness of the charity’s important work, with the players and staff wearing t-shirts promoting the Foundation throughout the day.
Town fans can now text their support for the Foundation - click HERE for more info.
As has already been revealed on htafc.com, Club Partner Igloo Books – which has been instrumental another Foundation project, Reading Diaries – will also give out FREE books to under-10s attending the game (click HERE for full information).
Town’s match day magazine, Give Us An H, will also carry lots of information about the Town Foundation on the day. You can buy that programme online now - click HERE!
A bucket collection will also take place on match day; an army of willing volunteers, including business leaders from our Club Partners have very kindly offered to lend a hand and “do the right thing”
Pupils who attend one of the Foundation's 'Early Kick-Off' breakfast clubs - Netherhall Learning Campus Junior School - will also form the pre-match Guard of Honour as the teams enter the field of play ahead of kick-off, as well as help out with a half time presentation from Igloo Books.
“I’m really looking forward to showcasing all the excellent work that the Town Foundation has undertaken in our community at the Charlton game on 9 March,” Mandy Taylor explained.
“Although we are a relatively young charity, we are already making a tangible difference in our area through projects like the ‘Early Kick-Off’ breakfast club and Reading Diaries.
“It’s particularly poignant that the game falls during the same week as World Book Day too given the positive feedback we’ve had about our Reading Diaries for primary school pupils and I’d like to thank our Partner Igloo Books for their generous gesture at the game.
"Thanks also to the partners on our training tops - Rekorderlig, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Wilby - as well as Kirklees Active Leisure for allowing the players and Terry the Terrier to warm up in the special Foundation tops."
Also on the day, Club Partner Brighouse Juniors is participating in a sponsored walk from Brighouse Train Station to the Stadium to raise for funds for a 3G pitch. 75 players and coaches are walking just over five miles, calling en route at Town’s Canalside Sports Complex for refreshments before entering the Stadium and doing a lap of the pitch at approximately 2.15pm.
There will also be an exhibition football game between the Under-11 sides from Town's School Partners Honley and Kirkheaton.
