EYRE FULL OF PRAISE FOR U21s

11 March 2013

Manager gives verdict following emphatic away victory

Steve Eyre was full of praise for Town’s Development Squad following the emphatic 3-0 victory at Leicester.

Jordan Sinnott opened the scoring in the first half before Tom Smith made it two by half time. Max Leonard rounded off the scoring late in the second 45.

Speaking to htafc.com, Steve said:

“This team has character, personality, talent and fitness and to go away to the top of the league and win convincingly 3-0 was a real credit to the players and all involved," began Steve.

“We are a fit football club, but key to this is ball retention where you can dictate the speed of the game. All teams are fit, but without good ball retention you can at times look leggy, with no control of the speed of the game and too much chasing involved.

“We started very brightly dominating the ball, but were resilient in defence to keep out three corners, of which Leicester could have scored from each.

“We followed that up with a picturesque 25 yard free-kick by Jordan Sinnott from the angle, which came as no surprise as I watch him practise those types of free-kicks in training every day. We quickly added to our lead through a close range effort from Tom Smith who along with Tom Clarke at the back was excellent throughout.

“At half-time we decided to play a deep lying possession game in the second 45 and to counter attack frequently and quickly. In the later stages of the half Matt Crooks twice counter attacked the full length of the field to set up a missed chance for Connor Loftus and the game sealer for Max Leonard.

“We will now regroup and get ready for the next challenge and be ready to support the first team and new manager as required.”

Town’s team:

Lloyd Allinson; Robbie McIntyre, Tom Smith, Tom Clarke, Israel Johnson; Matt Crooks, Dale Hopson, Jordan Sinnott, Max Leonard (Mikey Starkey, 84’); Connor Loftus (Ryan Cox, 80’), Godwin Abadaki

Unused substitutes:

Nick Colgan

Town’s Development Team are next in action on Tuesday 19 March at Nottingham Forest
