BECKFORD MAKES JAMAICA DEBUT

23 March 2013

International round-up from this weekend

Two of Huddersfield Town’s players have been in action over the weekend’s first round of international fixtures this weekend.

Jermaine Beckford (pictured) made his debut for Jamaica, starting and playing 65 minutes for the Reggae Boyz during their 1-1 World Cup qualifier at home to Panama.

With 25 minutes to go he was replaced by Town teammate Theo Robinson for his second cap.

Town’s on-loan Jamaican duo could feature again on Tuesday in the next World Cup qualifier at Costa Rica.

Joel Lynch didn’t add to his solitary cap for Wales on Friday night; he was an unused substitute as his national side recorded an impressive 2-1 World Cup qualifying win in Scotland. Joel will be hoping to get some time on the pitch when Wales take on Croatia at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile Oliver Norwood and Northern Ireland had a disappointing weekend, with two attempts to stage their World Cup qualifier at home to Russia thwarted by the inclement weather. Ollie and co will be hoping the Windsor Park pitch recovers in time for the second qualifier against Israel on Tuesday.

Town’s fifth international call-up, Murray Wallace, will want to play when Scotland’s Under-21s take on Luxembourg on Monday.
