Town Foundation serves breakfast to Ethos College students

The Town Foundation opened an ‘Early Kick-Off’ breakfast club with a difference on Monday at Ethos College.
The latest breakfast club from Town’s official charity – the eighth in total so far – is catering for a different market than the other EKOs. Ethos College is a pupil referral unit established for Kirklees students aged between 14 and 16 years old.

Town’s injured midfielder Keith Southern dropped in to the Rawthorpe-based campus for the launch, providing signatures for the young fans in attendance and presenting a football for use at the school.

The first initiative of the Town Foundation, ‘Early Kick-Off’ is an exciting scheme that helps ensure the young people of Huddersfield and the wider community start their day in the right way – with a healthy nutritious breakfast.

Initially the project benefitted five specially selected local schools upon its launch in November 2012, but such was the initial success that the scheme has now been expanded to a further three schools – with a further launch planned at Chickenley later this year.

The Town Foundation’s Corporate Fundraising Officer Mandy Taylor commented:
“Our latest ‘Early Kick-Off’ launch at Ethos College was a new concept as we are now supporting teenagers, but the remit is still the same – we want to help the young people of Huddersfield and Kirklees start their day in the right way.

“We have now served up over 10,000 breakfasts across the whole project, which is an amazing testament to the success of the scheme given the first breakfast club launched only six months ago.
“I would like to thank everyone – businesses and individuals alike – that has made a donation to the Town Foundation to make this possible; together we are making a difference in our community.”
