Success Centre visits Germany

Huddersfield Town Success Centre Manager Jeanette Palmer was invited to Dynamo Dresden FC recently as the special guest of the British Council, Bosch Foundation and German Bundesliga.

Jeanette was asked to advise and support the 12 German Bundesliga and other clubs to present on the best way to develop their education and teaching provision based on good practice in the UK, most notably Town’s own Success Centre. To a panel of around 100 guests, including education officials, football club representatives and the Police Commissioner for Dresden, Jeanette presented ideas and took part in a question and answer session to help develop ideas and a development plan for the Bundesliga education centres.

Jeanette took a set of Huddersfield Town flags with her to Germany to give as tokens of greetings from the Club and presented one to each of the assembled clubs. Upon return to their respective clubs some of the tutors present at the event took photographs of their students, with the Town flag taking centre stage on each photo! The students shown attend the education centres at Arminia Bielefeld, Borussia Dortmund, 04 Shalke, VfL Bochum and Werder Bremen.

The Bosch Foundation in Germany has funded the 12 Bundesliga clubs to work with young people in their local communities to tackle a host of social issues such as youth crime, drug addiction and alcohol problems. It is the students that are participating in such projects that are shown here. The Bundesliga clubs are keen to develop their education centres based on UK good practice over the last 13 years of the UK Playing for Success project, of which our own Success Centre is an integral player.

A number of other German clubs may be sending their photo wishes through soon, so watch this space for an update of greetings from Germany.

Huddersfield Town Success Centre is a schools and community focused educational centre jointly managed by Huddersfield Town and Kirklees Council and is based in the suite of classrooms in the Fantastic Media Stand. For more information ring Jeanette on 01484 234153.
