TAYLOR ON CUP DRAW

17 June 2013

First Team Coach pleased with West Yorkshire derby tie

Town’s First Team Coach Steve Taylor is looking forward to taking on West Yorkshire Derby rivals Bradford City after being drawn against them in the First Round of the Capital One Cup.

The Terriers' last two meetings with the newly promoted League 1 outfit have come in competitions. In 2011, Bradford knocked Town out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with a 4-3 victory on penalties while in 2008, Town beat the Bantams 4-0 in the League Cup.

Ten goals have been scored in the last three meetings between the sides and Taylor is expecting more of the same in early August.

“It is a fantastic draw and even better that we are at home,” said Steve.

“The tie will add to what we hope will be a fantastic start to the season. Being a derby will give it that extra edge and hopefully we will be able to come out on top.”

The tie will be played on week commencing August 5 and will be Town’s second game of the 2013/14 season.

“It will be a very tough game; Bradford proved their ability in cup competitions last season by reaching the final of the League Cup. The tie will make for a good atmosphere and hopefully a good crowd.

“We want to start the season on a positive note, but Bradford will make it difficult for us.”

The 2013/14 Championship fixtures are revealed on Wednesday before Town return for pre-season training next week.

“Everything starts in earnest next Wednesday and everything will be full on right through until the start of August when the campaign kicks off,” Steve said.
