Skipper back at Canalside ahead of new season
Huddersfield Town Captain Peter Clarke is already putting in the hard miles ahead of the new season – two weeks before pre-season starts!
Town’s 31 year-old defender has been in Canalside’s Stripes Gym over the past couple week in preparation for pre-season.
“The hard work started two weeks after the season ended,” Pete said. “I started getting back into the swing of things when I returned from holiday and have kept the body ticking over. Pre-season is always a hard slog, but it is good to give yourself a little advantage by doing some work.
“As you get older and you have done as many pre-seasons as I have you understand what your body needs,” he continued. “With that, you try and keep yourself in good nick so that when you come back you don’t ache from head to toe after the first day of pre-season like you used to do as a 17, 18 year old when you hadn’t done anything for two months.”
Town's Canalside Sports Complex has continued to transform while the players have been away and Pete was impressed with the recent developments.
“It is really coming on,” he said. “The pitches are very close to being ready while the 3G pitch is looking in a fine state. A lot of building work has also taken place while we have been away and is really starting to take shape. Hopefully it will all be ready for when the lads return in a couple of weeks.”
