Striker completes permanent return to Huddersfield Town
Huddersfield Town can today confirm the signing of James Vaughan from Norwich City for an undisclosed fee.
The striker – Town’s Player of the Year following a highly successful 2012/13 season on loan in West Yorkshire – joins the Club, signing a three year contract.
James’s arrival further enhances Manager Mark Robins’ forward options ahead of the new season and follows hot on the heels of the arrivals of Jon Stead, Adam Hammill and Martin Paterson.
James will wear the number nine shirt at the Club.

Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins commented on the signing of James:
“James’ arrival is a significant signing for the Club and one that I know our supporters will be very pleased with after his excellent debut season in a Huddersfield Town shirt. Equally, I’m delighted that we have secured his services.
“The exciting thing is I believe there is even more to come from James. He is only 24 and although he already has excellent qualities in terms of strength, pace, work rate and much more, I believe he will have learned from the games he played last season and we will benefit from his knowledge and understanding of the style of football we want to play here.
“The Club has been very patient to get the right financial deal in its negotiations with Norwich City and I believe we have secured that, but negotiations with James took almost no time at all – that was agreed some weeks ago after Norwich gave us permission to speak to the player. He has shown such a huge desire to come to Huddersfield Town and turned down other, potentially more lucrative, financial offers.
“This transfer is, without doubt, a significant step forward ahead of the new Championship season.”
Birmingham born Vaughan began his career as a trainee at Everton and became the Premier League’s youngest ever goalscorer when he netted on only his second senior appearance against Crystal Palace on 10 April 2005, aged just 16 years and 271 days old.
James scored for the Toffees in the UEFA Cup and played in the 2009 FA Cup Final on his way to making 49 appearances for the Club, scoring nine goals in the process. He has also been capped by England at several youth levels.
James had three loan spells in the Championship with Derby County, Leicester City and Crystal Palace. His time with Palace was particularly successful; his nine goals helped Palace avoid relegation during the 2010/11 season.
Vaughan ended his long association with Everton in the summer of 2011, joining then newly promoted Premier League side Norwich City for an undisclosed fee on a three year contract.
He joined the Terriers in late August 2012 on a season-long loan and played a total of 37 games, scoring 14 goals in the League as he became a firm favourite with Town fans.
Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle added:
“We are really pleased to have got this transfer finally over the line. We all met him after the season end to see if he wanted to come back and explain how much we wanted him here, so to finally do the deal is great.
“There is a lot more to come from James and I believe he can be a big player for us. I’m sure the fans will be as delighted as we are to see him back.”
