TOWN’S FUTSAL TEAM CROWNED CHAMPS

8 July 2013

A team wins League, but loses national quarter final

Town’s Futsal A team was crowned Northern Champions at this weekend’s Football League Trust Futsal League finals in Birmingham.

The A team finished the season in first place of the Northern League 1 after completing the season unbeaten, notching 14 wins from 14 games and finishing the season with a goal difference of 105!

Town’s team travelled to Birmingham for the League 1 National Finals on Saturday and progressed from its group including Cheltenham Town, Chesterfield and Swindon Town, but fell at the hands of Derby County at the quarter final stage.

Town’s futsal C team also qualified for the national League 2 finals after finishing as runners up in the northern section and competed against Scunthorpe United, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Bristol Rovers on Sunday, but fell at the group stage.

These national finals cap a great first season for Town’s Futsal teams on the pitch – and we’re recruiting now for the new September 2013 intake!

As well as the action on the pitch, Town’s Futsal players – both male and female – complete a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport; a two year programme for 16-18 year olds who wish to pursue a career in sport.

The 2012/13 academic year was the first time Town’s Community Department launched this qualification and the team is now in the process of enrolling new students to start in September.

If you are interested, email Ryan McNeely via ryan.mcneely@thezone.uk.com or call 01484 484 155 for further details. The course allows a pathway to university and further study and lays the foundation for a career in sport.
