ROBINS LOOKS FORWARD TO SPAIN CAMP
5 July 2013
Manager Mark Robins will take his players to a five day training camp in Marbella, Spain next week as the build-up to the 2013/14 Championship campaign increases.
A 26-man group of players, consisting of the Club’s First Team and several players selected to travel from Town’s Development Squad, will train at the Barcelo Marbella resort in Spain between Monday and Friday, returning for the first pre-season friendly at Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon (click HERE for admission details).
Town Manager Mark has decided not to play any games during the squad’s time out in Spain; instead he will focus the preparation with two to three training sessions planned every day.
Injured duo Anthony Gerrard (calf) and Anton Robinson (knee) are the only First Team players not travelling whereas Daniel Carr, Matt Crooks and Jordan Sinnott will all work alongside their more senior colleagues.
“Our pre-season preparations for the players have been organised for a long time and next week’s work in Spain will be an integral part of the work before the games programme begins,” Town Manager Mark told htafc.com.
“Short stints of work away from Canalside are not just extremely helpful for fitness – we’ll complete two or three sessions per day while we’re in Marbella – but they also help to bring the group together. Although the new players have settled in very well, that will be of particular help to them in their integration. That togetherness will stand us in good stead ahead of what will be a very competitive and long Championship season.”
Robins continued:
“As well as the established professionals we have the likes of Chris Atkinson, Jake Carroll, Daniel Carr, Jimmy Spencer, Liam Ridehalgh, Jordan Sinnott and Matt Crooks with us and that is really pleasing for us as a Club in our development. It’s a big challenge for them, but it presents me and the technical staff with a great opportunity to have another close look at them and gives those players the opportunity to impress.
“All the players have worked very hard since returning to Canalside for the start of training on 27 June; I’m delighted with them. I look forward to that continuing next week.”
