CHARLES NETS IN FRIENDLY WIN

17 July 2013

Burnley 0 Town U18s 1

Town’s U18s recorded their first victory of pre-season on Wednesday afternoon at Burnley courtesy of Jake Charles’ winning goal.

Speaking after the match Frankie Bunn told htafc.com:

“We rotated the team using the rolling substitutes that we had and allowed each striker to have at least 45 minutes on the pitch," he said.

“We played OK in the first half whereas the second half was quite scrappy. We lost Ben Atkinson during the half who came off injured and we had to replace him with Jack Boyle and then Jake Hanson, who are two U16 players.

“We also had Rekeil Pyke playing in the second 45, so the team was a mixture of youngsters and trialists and as a result, the game became scrappy. We defended very well, though, and the backline was terrific along with the two ‘keepers.”

On the goal, Frankie said: “Mickey Starkey hit a diagonal ball from the half way line, which Jake Charles ran on to between the left-back and the centre-half and he slotted it home very well.”

Town’s team:

Ed Wilczynski (Sam Guthrie); Mikey Starkey, Danny Kane, Joe Wilkinson, Bradley Carroll; Trialist, Philip Billing, Ben Atkinson; Jake Charles; Trialist, Trialist

Substitutes:

Rekeil Pyke, Trialist, Jake Hanson, Jack Boyle
