Midfielder moves on Standard Loan

Huddersfield Town midfielder Chris Atkinson has today completed a ‘window to window’ loan move to League 1 side Tranmere Rovers.

The central midfielder moves to Prenton Park on loan until 2 January 2014.

Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins believes the move will benefit Atkinson’s development:

“Chris enjoyed a similar loan in League 2 with Chesterfield during the opening stages of last season and we believe the step up to League 1 will once again improve him further as a footballer. I have a good relationship with Ronnie Moore having played under him at Rotherham and I know that he will help develop Chris’ skills.

“Competition for a midfield spot is strong and Chris needs first team football.

“Tranmere were pushing for promotion last season and we believe they will provide Chris with an excellent environment to play football in. Also, geographically the move is good as we will be able to monitor Chris’ progress closely. ”

The move is the 21 year-old’s third loan move away from the Club after he enjoyed 15 appearances at Darlington in the 2011/12 season and scored five goals in 15 appearances with the Spireites last term.

Atkinson returned to Town ahead of the West Yorkshire Derby with Leeds United last season and made an immediate impression, scoring the opening goal on 12 minutes.

The Academy graduate went on to make a further seven appearances for Town with his last one coming against Wigan in the FA Cup.
