WIGAN 3 TOWN U18s 3

14 January 2013

Youngsters play part in entertaining draw

George Conway, William Boyle and Duane Holmes all netted in Town Under-18s’ final match before their FA Youth Cup Fourth Round tie against Stoke on Wednesday.

Winger Conway and defender Boyle put the Terriers two goals ahead inside twenty minutes as the youngsters made a blistering start to the match. However, goals either side of half-time levelled matters before Wigan took the lead midway through the second half.

Top scorer Duane Holmes earned the Terriers a point with his eighth goal of the season.

Professional Development Coach Tony Carss was pleased with the resolve his players showed.

“It was the first time in a while where we had all the Under-18s together playing a competitive game of football.

“We started very well, but after the second goal went in we stopped doing the right things and we got punished. We showed good spirit to get back into the game and earn a point.

“Wednesday’s match is a massive game and all the lads are chomping at the bit to get back out there. We have prepared well and are looking forward to the game.”

Town's team (4-2-1-3):

Ed Wilczynski; Mikey Starkey, William Boyle, Joe Wilkinson, Tom Briggs; Ben Holmes (Danny Morton, 65), Kedesh Goddard, Duane Holmes; George Conway (Ryan Cox, 70), Paul Mullin (Rekeil Pyke, 60), Jake Charles
