Calum moving on from Wigan defeat
Calum Woods admitted the Terriers were disappointed with their showing in the 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Premier League Wigan Athletic.
The Liverpudlian full back was arguably Town’s most impressive performer on the afternoon as Mark Robins took charge of his first game, but explained that any personal plaudits were no consolation following the home loss.
“Obviously I’m disappointed; the first priority is the team, the result and the performance,” Calum told htafc.com. “We knew they were going to be a good team – they’re in the Premier League – but we’re disappointed it finished 4-1.
“They move the ball around well and they had a lot of good players all over the pitch. It was difficult to get tight at times, but we’re disappointed with the goals we conceded – we should have done better as a team all round to stop them.
“I enjoyed playing in the FA Cup against Premier League opposition, but the result has ruined it.”
Regardless of this afternoon’s result, Woods and his teammates have to quickly refocus on the battle for npower Championship consolidation with the impending game at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
Calum continued: “We have to think positively. That was the first game under the new manager and we will get better. When a new manager comes in it’s always the same – you have to try and impress. Training has been really good and we’re all disappointed we didn’t start off with a win for him.
“We have to look forward to our next game on Tuesday night; having such a quick turnaround might be a good thing. I’m looking forward to it.
“Every game is important now; it’s like having 14 Cup finals until the end of the season. All the lads are together and we have to focus and concentrate on the League, taking each game as it comes – starting with Tuesday night.”
