NPOWER GIRLS’ & KIDS’ CUPS BEGIN

8 February 2013

Under-13 girls and Under-11 schools competitions underway

The 2012/13 npower Kids’ and Girls’ Cup is now well underway at Huddersfield Town!

Two nationwide competitions organised by League sponsors npower, the Under-13 competition is for girls and the Under-11 contest is unisex.

Each Football League club must decide which schools side will represent it before entering that team into a regional play-off, with the eventual national final being played on the big stage of Wembley.

Town’s representatives for the U13 competition was decided on the pitch during the half time interval of the First Team’s npower Championship game at home to Bolton on 8 December; Mirfield Free Grammar overcoming Colne Valley.

Sadly Mirfield, who are pictured above, lost in the semi-final of the regional heats at Barnsley last week, meaning Town’s participation in this event is over for the year.

Meanwhile the Under-11s cup has begun, with three local heats having already been played at the Zone on St. Andrew’s Road under the supervision of the ‘Football in the Community’ team. Rowley lane, Honley, Lindley and a fourth semi-finalist to be decided next week will play each other in a Round Robin at the Zone on Monday 25 February, with the Final to decide which team will represent Town this year scheduled to take place during the half-time interval of Town’s home clash with Charlton Athletic on 9 March.

Town’s representatives Meltham Church of England Primary, won the Under-11s competition in May 2011, beating their opponents from Bristol Rovers 2-0 at Old Trafford ahead of Town’s npower League 1 Play-Off Final against Peterborough United.
