XMAS MESSAGE FROM MARK ROBINS

25 December 2013

“Thanks for making 2013 special”

Manager Mark Robins has today issued a Christmas message to all Huddersfield Town fans, thanking them for a ‘special’ 2013.

“I have now been at the Club for just over 10 months and taken charge of 40 games,” Mark explained.

“When I met Dean, Ross and Nigel to discuss the job they were all very clear what they wanted for the Club and from its manager. In the short-term, success was ensuring that the team picked up enough points to secure its Championship status, but it was the long term strategy that made a big impression on me.

“The Elite Player Performance Plan – which relates to developing young players – combined with incoming Financial Fair Play rules, was on the verge of bringing about a fundamental change in football, but this Club’s vision and ambition put it ahead of that revolution. The investment in Canalside was plain for all to see, but when our meeting took place it was clear that there was a desire to develop in every aspect; the facility, youth development, recruitment, analysis and training performance.

“I was immediately excited by this project, because it was a perfect fit with my philosophy on football.

“Thankfully we were able to finish the job of staying in the Championship back in May; that was a vital first phase of what we wanted to do.

“The second phase was to recruit good players that can progress the Club up a level and employ a different style of play, which we have also done.

“Our next step was to implement a new style of play at the Club. The general football fan is more discerning than ever before and I believe Huddersfield Town fans in particular really know their football. It’s been very pleasing to hear the backing you have given me, the staff and the team during 2013; you’ve been fantastic. It is important that you see where we are trying to take the team and the Club, why we are changing the method and style of play and the reasons behind our recruitment process.

“I must also say that our players have been brilliant in delivering what they’ve been asked to do. I firmly believe in the quality of the people we have at this Club. I believe that the players are giving me as much as they possibly can.

“I enjoy watching this Huddersfield Town team play. At times it can be a little bit frustrating, but I want to set the bar high and I will ensure that we are doing the right things that will incrementally bring success to this Club.

“To be mid-table at this moment in time is ok, but we will keep hammering home the ideals and philosophy of this football club. We all have the desire to keep improving upon the style of play and the performances, because that should bring about a further upturn in our results.

“We know that year on year, we will get better and deliver what the Chairman and the Board want us to. Make no mistake; ultimately, over a period of time, the goal for Huddersfield Town has to be to get to the Premier League, just as it will be for every Championship club.

“In the short-term, we’re fully focussed on performing for you when we take on Derby County on Boxing Day and Yeovil Town on 29 December. I look forward to seeing you all at the John Smith’s Stadium, backing the team, over the next few days.

“Happy Christmas and Season’s Greetings to all Town Fans.”
