Mark praises troops after away victory

Mark Robins praised the performances of Oliver Norwood and Alex Smithies as Town’s winning streak continued at Bolton.

Smithies made a number of vital saves in the first 45, while Norwood’s long range effort was enough to settle the contest.

Mark said: “We are confident at the moment and the players have worked hard to grind out a result and keep a clean sheet. We played football when we could and I am just very pleased.

“The clean sheet is magnificent and Alex Smithies has been superb again, while Oliver Norwood’s strike speaks for itself. There was togetherness about us tonight.

“We played really after not starting brightly at all. We weren’t great in the first half and they put us under some heavy pressure.”

Ollie’s goal is his second in a matter of days and was well worthy of winning any football match.

“He is technically outstanding and a lot of it with him is belief. I spoke with about his shooting and positional play and he has taken it all on-board. He is hitting the ball really well at the moment and is full of confidence; he is having a good week.”

The clean sheet was Town’s first in over two months and is just as pleasing as the three points for Robins.

“The defence was superb throughout,” he said. “Joel Lynch in the second half and Anthony Gerrard alongside him have done fantastic, as have both full-backs. Some of our passing moves under pressure were very good and I have to say that it has been a decent week; hopefully we can take the momentum into Ipswich on Saturday.”

On injuries, Robins said: “Martin (Paterson) has tweaked his hamstring and we hope that he will be fine for Saturday and there were doubts over James Vaughan, but he seems to have come through fine. Danny Ward picked up a dead leg.”
