“IT IS AN EXCITING GAME”

24 December 2013

Alex looking forward to Rams clash

Alex Smithies kept his fifth clean sheet of the season against Brighton and is set to make the 200th start of his career against Derby.

The ‘keeper has been in fine form of late and made the best save of the game at the Amex to deny Kemy Agustien.

“It was a fantastic point, especially when you consider the amount of travelling we did and the conditions that the game was played in,” he said.

“It was an intimidating atmosphere, but we showed plenty of resilience and deserved the point.”

Town are on home soil for the remaining two games of 2013 and Alex is excited about the prospect of playing the division's form side.

“Derby have picked up some good results in the last couple of months, but we are back in front of our home fans who will hopefully come out and support us in good numbers over the festive period. We will attack from the off and go for the win.”

On his Christmas Day schedule, Alex said:  “I invite family around for Christmas, but I have to be reserved and have a light meal and stay off the alcohol. The players are just as excited as the fans about the game, but we will act in a professional manner to make sure that we are ready for it.

“My brother in-law stays over on Christmas Eve and we will open a few presents and then on Christmas Day morning I will head into training before getting back for lunch when all my family are round.

“We don’t get to enjoy it in the same way as most, but if we win on Boxing Day it will all be worth it.”
