U21s FACE FOREST FIRST UP

15 August 2013

Steve Eyre’s men open with Friday's trip to Nottingham

Like Town’s First Team, Steve Eyre’s Under-21 side will make the short trip south to Nottingham Forest to start their season on Friday afternoon.

Town’s first Professional Development League 2 game of the season kicks off at 2pm on Friday at Forest’s Wilford Lane training ground and Eyre will be hoping to build on the success of last season, when Town’s Development Squad reached the League semi-finals.

Matt Crooks is likely to captain the side following Jordan Sinnott’s loan move to Bury and he enjoyed a fruitful pre-season in front of goal. He followed up a brace at Radcliffe Borough with a superb volley against Dulwich Hamlet.

Equally, summer signing Daniel Carr (pictured above) enjoyed himself in pre-season with three goals, including a brace against AFC Emley.

Eyre will be without the services of defender Joe Wright, who is recovering from a broken leg sustained playing for the Under-18s at Sheffield Wednesday last season.

Senior Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre was looking forward to getting back into match action when speaking to htafc.com ahead of the game:

“The boys love training and it is a massive part of their development and education, but we are looking forward to throwing ourselves into the games programme on Friday.

“Pre-season has been far more settled this year; we were very happy with the lads that we bought through our system last season and as a result we offered them extended deals. Having a core group of players has bought stability to the team and should assist their development and progression into the First Team.”

You can follow all the action live from Nottingham Forest via Town’s twitter feed @htafcdotcom while the match report and the post-comments of Steve Eyre will be on htafc.com following the final whistle!
