MARK PLEASED TO BE IN THE HAT

27 August 2013

Manager wants to see an improvement on Saturday

Despite seeing his side progress to the third round of the Capital One Cup, Mark Robins wants to see an improved performance when the Terriers take on Barnsley this Saturday.

Town’s passage wasn’t a smooth one as they twice had to come from behind to earn a 3-2 victory.

“We have to be a little bit stronger under pressure,” said Mark. “They changed shape to match us and we have to be better because Barnsley will do something similar on Saturday.

“We were flat and the energy levels weren’t as high as Saturday; we looked to have a lot of nervous energy. We were off the pace, but nonetheless it was a win and we are in the hat for the next round.”

Dale Stephens and Marvin Sordell twice gave the Addicks the lead before Joel Lynch, Jonathan Hogg and Adam Hammill netted for the Terriers.

“Charlton played well and limited our attacking threat as well as carrying one of their own,” continued Mark. “They didn’t let us pass it around and the crowd let us know that we weren’t good enough at times. We need to man up a little bit and take the ball under pressure and pass it because they are good players. It was an interesting evening and I am pleased to have continued our good start.

“I am sure that the performance on Saturday will be better,” Mark added.

Robins’ second half substitutes helped claw Town back into the game and Town’s Manager praised their impact.

“I am gutted for Danny Ward because he was fantastic in training yesterday, but I just couldn’t get him in the team. Sean (Scannell) and Jon (Stead) had a big impact on the game and I was pleased, but they will have to be patient. If the players are performing consistently well it is hard to take their shirts from them.”
