Academy scholar gets international call-up
Huddersfield Town Academy scholar Danny Kane has been called up to the Republic of Ireland’s Under-17 squad for their friendlies in Slovakia.
Defender Kane, who joined the Club from Cherry Orchard in the summer, is part of Head Coach Tom Mohan’s squad that will play two games against the hosts in Bratislava on Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 September.
This pair of friendlies comes just before the start of Ireland’s qualifying campaign for the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championships, which will be held in Malta.
The Republic is part of qualifying group seven alongside England, Gibraltar and Armenia. All the qualifying games will be played in Armenia between 25 September and 29 October 2013, with the top two teams qualifying automatically for the Elite Round of qualifying alongside the best two third placed teams from all 13 groups.
Town’s Under-18 side has won its first two games of the new Professional Development League season and will be hoping to extend that streak on Saturday when they host Derby County in an 11.30am kick-off at Canalside.
