Defender keen to get going after positive pre-season
Joel Lynch’s name wasn’t even on the team sheet during the latter stages of last season, but following a promising pre-season he looks set to start against his former employees on Saturday.
The former Forest central defender made 23 appearances last season with his penultimate one coming during the Terriers’ heavy 6-1 defeat at the City Ground.
“Last season didn’t end very well for me; I was pretty much down and out,” said the 25 year-old.
“I wasn’t even in the squad. However, I did exactly what the Manager told me to do over the summer and I have worked really hard during pre-season. I have barely missed a session and have just given my all. At the moment things are looking good; the Manager has restored his faith in me.
“I am in a much better situation and I feel like I can kick on. It feels like a fresh start.”
The Welsh international made 65 league starts for Forest and is looking forward seeing some of his old teammates.
“It is an exciting prospect going back to my old club. I have a lot of good memories from my time at Forest and I haven’t got a bad word to say about them.
“It is a very tough fixture for us.”
Following the impressive signings of Jamie Mackie, Jack Hobbs and Djamel Abdoun, Forest are being tipped as one of the favourites for the Championship title.
“Expectations are high at Forest this season,” said Joel. “They have made some good signings and I think their squad is one of the strongest in the Championship. They have got a lot of experience within their ranks and I think they will be up near the top of the League.
“The atmosphere at the City Ground is one of the best in the league. When Forest is winning, it is a great place to play football, but the fans can turn on them when things aren’t going well on the pitch. Hopefully we will make a good start and take the sting out of the atmosphere.”
