HOGG: I’M RARING TO GO!
16 August 2013
Jonathan Hogg may have missed last weekend’s draw against QPR, but he’s itching to get back out on the pitch when the Terriers take on Millwall on Saturday!
Town’s summer recruit from Watford admitted he was disappointed to miss last weekend’s game through illness, having fared so well in his first two games for the Club.
“It was a massive blow for me personally to miss last Saturday,” Jonathan told htafc.com. “I felt the illness slowly coming on for a couple of days and then on Saturday morning I was a mile from being right.
“I wanted to play, but I think I would have let the team down as I wasn’t in the right state to play. I had a chat with the Manager and he thought it would be best for me – and the team – if I missed that game and focussed on being 100% fit for Millwall.”
Thankfully for Town, Oscar Gobern stepped into the breach and was ‘Man of the Match’ in Hogg’s absence – something that came as no surprise to Jonathan:
“We have a really good bunch of lads here and a lot of good players. If one person misses out through injury or illness, we have another good player ready to replace him. It’s a good thing to have in the squad.
“I can’t see any reason why we can’t improve this season and game by game. We have to be positive and focus on heading in the right direction.”
Away from the pitch, Jonathan explained that he has settled into life in West Yorkshire very quickly.
“It’s a fantastic place; I love being here. The staff are great, the players are fantastic and outside of football I can get home to Middlesbrough a lot more, which is important – that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to move. I love being here at the minute.”
Next up for Town is the notoriously hard trip to Millwall on Saturday, but Jonathan can’t wait to walk into the Lions’ Den!
“I’m back and raring to go now. Millwall has a real atmosphere, but that makes me want to do better. The boys have to relish it and put a performance on.
“Millwall have brought a lot of new players in over the closed season and sometimes it can take a while to bed in. We’ve been nice and positive going into the game and we have to go there and take the game to them.”
