Steve delighted with fight-back
Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre was delighted with the character shown by his players as they came from a goal down to beat Leeds United.
“Their goal was almost like a penalty, as soon as he placed it I was thinking goal,” began Steve. "We were punished for a bit of loose play which allowed them to go forward and attack.
“We were back on it straight away, though, and the lads showed plenty of belief and desire, which we try and instill into them on a daily basis.”
At half time the game was evenly poised at 0-0 and Steve gave an insight into what was said.
“We had to stop their flow and I felt they went out there and did that. We had to deal with their long balls and try and get closer to them. It was about persevering and trying to get more people into the box.”
Town certainly persevered and scored two excellent goals to record the three points.
“Duane Holmes scored a wonder goal and I am thrilled for Daniel Carr because it looked like he was flagging a little bit, but he then had a surge of effort where he was the best player on the pitch. I was pleased he grabbed the winner because I wanted Duane’s goal to be in a winning game.
“Duane’s performance, goal and assist was brilliant and there were a lot of people at Canalside to see it.”
