EYRE TAKES POSITIVES FROM BRADFORD
7 August 2013
Town’s Senior Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre was keen to take the positives from tonight’s friendly at Bradford Park Avenue.
A poor spell in the first half cost the young Terriers dearly in terms of the scoreline – a 2-0 defeat – but Steve still took a lot from the run-out at the Horsfall Stadium, as he explained to htafc.com after the final whistle.
“The Manager (Mark Robins) was present tonight and we got more vital minutes into some of the First Team lads,” Steve explained, speaking of fit-again Jon Stead and Cristian Lopez.
“We had a poor 15 minute spell during the first half and the difference was made in both 18-yard boxes tonight. We allowed Bradford too many entries into our own during that poor quarter of an hour, whereas we didn’t take any of the chances we created – particularly in the second.
“We had to fit five centre forwards into the starting eleven tonight as those players required minutes on the pitch and that didn’t help the team’s cohesion as they all wanted to occupy the same areas of the pitch, but that is a challenge we had to overcome.”
The next match for the Development Squad is the first of the new Professional Development League season – a trip to Nottingham Forest next Friday.
Steve continued: “I’m happy with pre-season. We’ve enjoyed the training sessions and the players look really fit, whereas the games have been all about bringing the team on. We’re all really looking forward to the competitive games programme getting started.”
