TOWN CELEBRATES THE NEXT GENERATION!

8 April 2013

Lots of activity off the field vs. Peterborough

Town fans got a glimpse at the potential stars of tomorrow on Saturday when the Club used the npower Championship match against Peterborough United to celebrate its Academy.

The pinnacle of the day came during the half-time interval when Academy Manager Mark Lillis joined Match Day Announcer Paul Ramsden on the pitch to introduce next season’s scholars; Ben Atkinson, Jack Senior, Fraser Horsfall, Nathaniel Pells, Philip Billing, Bradley Carroll, Sheiden Rodgers and Danny Kane. For more information on those players, click HERE!

Many other Academy age groups were also involved in the day, with Town’s Under-12s forming the Guard of Honour as both teams entered the field of play.

Several other age groups took part in an exhibition penalty shootout during the half-time interval.

The Academy players also helped Town support the West Riding County FA’s ‘Respect’ campaign on the day, parading the ‘Respect’ banner around the pitch at half time and before the 3pm kick-off. Children in the family stand were given ‘Respect’ goody bags which included information on the campaign, water bottles, caps and stickers!

The players were joined on their lap of honour by the extraordinary Alan Boothroyd, who had reached Huddersfield in his quest to complete 40 marathons in 20 days to run between Land’s End and John o’ Groats in aid of the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign. For more information on Alan’s run, click HERE!

The game was also a School and Club Focus game, meaning a bumper attendance in the Fantastic Family Stand. The kids – some of who were watching the Terriers for the first time – were met by face painters and a balloon modeller!

The day started down at Canalside Sports Complex with the usual 12.30pm start for the popular question and answer session, this week featuring celebrity Town fan and Coronation Street star Chris Fountain.

Chris also drew the half-time Golden Gamble numbers – click HERE for full details.
