ROBINS: WE DELIVERED TODAY

27 April 2013

Mark delighted with Bristol showing

Mark Robins said his players delivered today as they defeated Bristol City 3-1.

James Vaughan grabbed the headlines with a hat trick to fire Town closer to Championship survival.

“We are on 57 points and we are still not safe, it is incredible,” said Mark. “Barnsley have done unbelievably well to get the result they did today and they will come to us next week firing. Things may change this evening, but knowing the Championship, it will go down to the final game.

“The good thing now is that there are other teams below us who need to win. I am not sure what the permutations are with fixtures, but our safety is still in our hands.”

Vaughan will take the plaudits, but it was an excellent Town performance from front to back.

“The players delivered today,” Mark said. “The three points were the most important thing, but we didn’t do it boringly and we played some good football. We passed the ball well and I thought Lee Novak was magnificent alongside James Vaughan.

“They could, and should, have had some more goals; James has been denied three times by their goalkeeper. He was on fire today.

“You know Lee will give you a performance; he is that type of player. He is hungry and will always work his socks off for the team and you need players like that. He was the perfect player for our scenario today.”

The only downside was Bristol’s late goal, but the win means that survival is still well in Town’s hands.

“It was disappointing to concede and that was the only downside to today. Regardless of what happens tonight we have put ourselves in a great position and if we need something from our final home game then great. Barnsley need something and it will be a feisty game.”

Jermaine Beckford missed out through injury, but Mark is hopeful that the striker will feature again before the season is out.

“He has a groin strain and we hope that he will resume training next week. We need all hands on deck.”
