Midfielder still awaiting eighth Irish cap
Town midfielder Oliver Norwood was an unused substitute for the Northern Irish senior side as they opened their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat in Russia on Friday afternoon.
Norwood was left on the bench by the Irish in the difficult clash at the Lokomotiv Stadium in Moscow, but will be hoping to gain his eighth cap for his country on Tuesday night when Luxembourg visit Belfast’s Windsor Park for the second qualifier.
Portugal, Azerbaijan and Israel are the other teams competing with Northern Ireland in Group F, with the winners going straight into the tournament in Brazil and the eight best runners-up from all nine groups contesting Play-Offs for a place in the 2014 World Cup.
Although Ollie was born in Burnley and played for England until under-17 level, Norwood has Irish heritage and made the switch at under-19 level – eventually making his senior debut in August 2010.
Town teammate Paul Dixon will be hoping to make his Scotland debut when they get their qualification campaign under way on Saturday.
