GO KART CHALLENGE BACK FOR WATFORD

26 September 2012

Kids to descend on the Stadium on 29 September!

Huddersfield Town will launch the third year of one of its leading community initiatives at the upcoming npower Championship home clash with Watford on Saturday 29 September – the Go Kart Challenge!

Run in association with Club Partner David Brown and led by Town Club Ambassador Andy Booth, the competition challenges local school children to build a Go Kart throughout the course of their school year ahead of a special day held at the Stadium – scheduled for 26 June 2013 this term.

Throughout the last school year students from 16 participating schools were supported by David Brown engineers as they built their Go Karts ahead of a finals day held at the Stadium.

A judging panel consisting of Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle, Commercial Director Sean Jarvis and representatives from David Brown judged the Go Karts on criteria such as the sustainability, manoeuvrability and nimbleness of their Go-Karts.

Moorend Technology College – now known as Moorend Academy – were the 2012 winners, following in the footsteps of inaugural winners Holmfirth High School, and they will parade their winning Go Kart during the half-time interval of the Watford game.

Their award-winning Go Kart will also be on view in the Gazebo outside the Direct Golf UK Stand ahead of the game and the winning team from Moorend Academy will dine with the Town Directors ahead of the 3pm kick-off against the Hornets!

Club Ambassador Andy Booth added:

“It will be great to welcome the winning team from Moorend Academy on Saturday – and we’re hoping a good number of pupils from the other 15 participating schools will be at the game on a special ticket deal to enjoy the day.

“The Go Kart Challenge is a fantastic community initiative and we’re hoping the 2013 challenge will be the biggest yet. We’ve already got 11 schools signed up ahead of this official launch and we’re hoping to surpass last year’s numbers.”

There will be plenty more to look forward to on the day; Football Freestyler Chris Draper will return to the Stadium to provide entertainment throughout the day – and of course Simon Grayson’s in-form Terriers will take on Gianfranco Zola’s outfit on the pitch!
