DIXON STARS IN SCOTLAND DEBUT

8 September 2012

Left back named Man of the Match vs. Serbia

Town left back Paul Dixon was named ‘Man of the Match’ on his Scotland debut as the national side drew 0-0 with Serbia in their first World Cup qualifier.

Aberdeen-born Dixon was the star of the show as the Scots kept a clean sheet at Hampden Park, but at the other end they couldn’t find a way past the visiting defence.

“I enjoyed it a lot; it was a dream come true to pull on the Scotland shirt,” Paul told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.

“It's a point. We've not lost which is the main thing. We made chances and in another game we might have taken those chances.”

Summer signing Paul played the full 90 minutes at left back on his debut and will be hoping to play again when Scotland play their second 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier at home to Macedonia on Tuesday night.

Wales, Belgium and Croatia complete Group A; the winner will go through to the tournament in Brazil, whereas eight of the nine group runners-up will contest Play-Offs.
