SPENCER JOINS BRENTFORD ON LOAN

16 October 2012

Striker moves to London until 21 November

Huddersfield Town striker Jimmy Spencer is today set to join npower League 1 side Brentford on loan until 21 November.

The 20 year-old Academy graduate made his Huddersfield Town First Team debut in the Capital One Cup game at Preston North End on the opening day of the season and made a further appearance as a substitute in the first npower Championship game of the season at Cardiff City.

He has also made four appearances for Steve Eyre’s Under-21 side so far this season.

Most of Spencer’s previous First Team experience was gleamed through three separate spells out on loan; initially at non-league Northwich Victoria in 2009/10 before season-long moves to npower League 2 sides Morecambe and Cheltenham Town during the last two years.

However, this will be Jimmy’s first taste of regular npower League 1 football – something manager Simon Grayson believes is important for his development.

“We’ve looked at the squad and although Jimmy has been on the bench we have options available, which allows him to go out on loan and get some games at the top end of a good division in League 1.

“It’s a good opportunity for him. I know Uwe (Rosler, Brentford Manager) really well and his team plays in a certain way, so it’s all part of Jimmy’s development. We could have kept him here, but I think the time has come where he needs to go and get games.

“He impressed us in pre-season, hence why he has been in and around the First Team Squad. He got a new contract off the back of it too, but now the next step is this move to Brentford with an eye to coming back and breaking into our First Team as a regular.”

The Bees currently sit ninth in the npower League 1 ladder and Jimmy bolsters their attacking ranks after news of a long-term knee injury to former Falkirk striker Farid El Alagui recently.
